Kings of Leon played four new songs during their sold-out London Hyde Park Show on Wednesday, June 30. The four new songs -- which included 'Immortals,' 'Southbound' and 'Radioactive' -- were played to a sell-out crowd of 60,000. It was the band's biggest stand-alone gig in the UK.
Before the first of the new songs, 'Immortals,' was played, frontman Caleb Followill told the crowd, "Since we saw you guys last we went and made a record. That's what we put a lot of work into. Just yesterday some people at the record label got to hear a couple of songs from it. I don't know if they want us to play a bunch of new songs but I think 'F--- it' -- were gonna do it!"
The 25-song set included tracks from all four of their albums, and a cover of the Pixies' 'Where Is My Mind,' but notably excluded their debut single, 'Red Morning Light,' from the list.
Last August, the Followill's headline slot at the Reading Festival was marred by an outburst by the singer over the crowd's apparent coolness -- it ended with the band flicking the crowd the "V" sign as they trooped off.
"It's been one of the greatest experiences of my life," Followill told the crowd on Wednesday. "Thank you all very much. One of these days, when we're all fat and bald ... or balder, and we're sitting in Tennessee telling all our kids about all the great things that happened to us, this is gonna be one of those."
There's no word yet as to when the band's fifth record will hit the shelves – the inclusion of new songs in the set list bring to a close over two years of touring based around 2008's multiplatinum 'Only by the Night.'
The Kings of Leon topped a bill which also included the Black Keys, the Drums, the Whigs and fellow Tennessee four-piece the Features.
