Despite an active itinerary with the Dead Weather, the Kills' Alison Mosshart has found time to reconvene with bandmate Jamie Hince to record a superb rendition of the Velvet Underground classic 'Pale Blue Eyes.' The acclaimed duo first began playing the Lou Reed-penned song, which is available for a free download from Levi's Pioneer Sessions, during shows last year in support of 2008's 'Midnight Boom.'The Kills follow in a long line of artists like R.E.M., Crowded House, Counting Crows and Alejandro Escovedo that have covered the pensive classic. Mosshart and Hince join other indie acts like the Shins, Dirty Projectors, Passion Pit and She and Him that have covered songs by other artists for the clothing company's series of gratis downloads.
The cover, which offers fans a musical morsel until the group's fourth album surfaces, is fitting in that the Kills have previously drawn comparisons to the influential New York outfit. Speaking about the status of the Kills' next album with the Las Vegas Weekly recently, Mosshart suggested the next album from the group was "on schedule".
"Sadly, it doesn't all depend on us," Mosshart explained. "Record labels will always take their time with things."
