Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor has penned the soundtrack for a film based around the origins of Facebook. The film, starring Justin Timberlake and directed by 'Fight Club' director David Fincher, is called 'The Social Network' and looks at the foundations of Facebook, reports BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat.
Reznor co-wrote the soundtrack for the film with British producer Atticus Ross.
He said: "When I actually read the script and realised what he was up to, I said goodbye to that free time I had planned."
The film examines the events of 2004 when Harvard University students launched the social networking website. Computer science student Mark Zuckerberg -- to be played in the film by Jesse Eisenburg -- began the website with fellow enthusiasts with the aim of keeping in touch with university friends.
Timberlake plays the role of Sean Parker, who went on to become President of Facebook.
The film has a US release date slated for Oct. 1, but a UK release has yet to be confirmed.
Reznor has been enjoyed downtime from Nine Inch Nails in recent times but is surrounded by speculation he is beginning a new project with his new wife, as previously reported by Spinner.
