No Age's Sold-Out Sled Island Set Interrupted by Overzealous Fan

There was a lot more action on stage than usual during No Age's July 3 Sled Island gig at Calgary's Royal Legion #1. For starters, the Los Angeles-based noise-pop duo had recruited a third member to add to their dizzying wall of distortion. And then there was the guy who climbed onto the stage in the middle of the band's set and hovered around guitarist Randy Randall and drummer Dean Spunt like some sort of impromptu sound guy. It wasn't long, though, before annoyed looks between Randall and Spunt tipped off the audience that this character didn't have the clearance to be sharing the stage with them. The fact that the guy actually tried to chat up Randall mid-song was also a pretty good indication that his presence was unwelcome.
After a few uncomfortable minutes, the super fan clued in that he wasn't getting the reception he'd hoped for and descended back into the boisterous crowd, leaving No Age to carry on with devastatingly loud renditions of 'Sleeper Hold' and tunes off their upcoming album, 'Everything in Between,' due out in September.
There wasn't a disappointed face inside the sold-out Legion during the performance. Outside, though, it was a different story. Disheartened No Age fans lined up all the way down the block, unable to believe that they had missed one of the most-hyped shows of Sled Island.
