Nite Jewel, 'Am I Real' -- New Song

It's a question we've all pondered about life at some point: what does this all mean, exactly? For Ramona Gonzalez of Los Angeles' Nite Jewel, that uncertainty lies at the heart of her new single, 'Am I Real,' an '80s-style synth-and-bass jam that finds her wondering "What can I say to myself?" and "Am I real?" amidst a barrage of programmed beats. While Nite Jewel is known for keeping things simple -- no fancy production or studio tricks are typical of her work – 'Am I Real' does stretch to nearly five minutes, with Gonzalez fading out as the track starts to loop. Her voice plays with pitch, giving off a warped feeling that makes her sound less and less real -- but that's probably the point.
The Los Angeles musician is currently prepping a new six-song EP, also called 'Am I Real,' which is due at digital retailers on July 20, with vinyl following suit on Aug. 16. She's scheduled to get on the road later this summer, and dates are available here. In the meantime, check out 'Am I Real' below.
