Ray Davies Rails Against Hop Farm Festival Organisers and Bands
- Posted on Jul 7th 2010 12:00PM by Andrew Kerr
Ray Davies vented his frustrations on stage to 30,000 people on Saturday, July 3, after organisers of the Hop Farm festival told the Kinks legend to cut his set short, the Daily Express reports. Asked to take his leave early to ensure headliner Bob Dylan kept to his stage time, Davies ignored the warnings and promptly told the crowd "F--- it, I'll play for as long as I want." He proceeded to wrap up his set with a particularly lengthy version of the Kinks' 'Lola.'
Davies also spoke out against other artists on the festival bill saying, "I don't live in a gated community like some of the acts here tonight."
In complete contrast to the poignancy of his Glastonbury set where he paid tribute to his recently-deceased former band mate Peter Quaife, Davies was in an altogether different frame of mind and even went as far as to label his old band "a pain in the a---."

I was there, and after he "railed", he was informed that he could continue: he then thanked and congratulated Vince Power and the staff of the Festival. So, that's what happened there. Just to give you all the facts.
And to anyone who disses The Kinks - sad, sad, sad. Go out and learn something about the history of British popular music. And then discover how stupid you are.
When DYLAN went through his "Born Again Christian" phase 20 years ago he was consistently booed (and at least 5 times booed OFF STAGE) for playing "God's Music" in place of his "Classic" stuff.
Ray Davies can sing "Home on the Range" and work a crowd into a frenzy. Could anyone else make "Ducks on the Wall" entertaining?!?
Are we sure that that "David" guy wasn't Dave Davies? For those who understand that, nothing more needs to be said, for those who don't......I forget the rest of it but it is really clever.
God save the KinKs.
Love Ray and Bob, neither can do any wrong. I'm sure Bob would not have been so rude, it was probably some stupid 20 something year old manager's lame brain idea.

no big deal humans will express all emotions good,or bad
we all get a little cranky young and old. let the good times roll
The Kinks had 13 Top 40 hits throughout their career, many more in Europe and the rest of the world. The Kinks version of You Really Got Me charted at #7 in the U.S. Van Halen's version charted at #36 I believe.
The Kinks had five Top 10 singles on the US Billboard chart. Nine of their albums charted in the Top 40. In the UK, the group had seventeen Top 20 singles along with five Top 10 albums. ASCAP, the performing-rights group, presented The Kinks with an award for "One Of The Most Played Songs Of 1983" for the hit single "Come Dancing".
The group received the Ivor Novello Award for
"Outstanding Service to British Music" and in 1990, their first year of eligibility, the original four members of The Kinks were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The Kinks were inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame in November 2005.
Ray Davies was designated CBE-Commander of the British Empire by the Queen which means he is one step away from honorary knighthood as in "Sir" Ray Davies. Pete Townshen calls him the poet laureate of British music, and I could go on and on and on. Oh yeah, The Kinks are considered to be the inventors of both heavy metal and punk rock music. His song Waterloo Sunset is considered the greatest pop song ever written in England's history.
Let's get real folks. Bob Dylan is an amazing songwriter, but his better days are way behind him. He should have retired five years ago and has completely lost it and needs to stay indoors. He no longer belongs on a stage with all due respect to him.
Folks, Ray Davies is a multi-millionaire who is notoriously cheap. I gues you might say he lives his life on a "Low Budget" but I can assure you he is worth $30 million to $40 million.

Saw Dylan in concert and it had to be one of the most boring nights of my life. He just stood there, didn't move, didn't interact with the audience, didn't do $-hit. Music was good, no denying that, but I'd never pay to see him again. Then again, unlike the "artists" (not all, but the ones who get the press) of today who are more show than substance, at least you knew he wasn't lipsyncing, and his voice was his, not studio enhanced.

July 08 2010 at 10:16 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI'm conflicted between getting annoyed or just laughing at the idiots commenting here. Individuals have different tastes; just because you don't personally like a particular song/group as you wean yourself off of Britney Spears or whatever doesn't make the older music "suck." But if you still need to rant, at least get your facts straight (Wikipedia helps) - the Kinks had 5 top ten singles in the US and Van Halen covered the Kinks 14 years after the original was released.
