Daft Punk to Soundtrack 'Tron: Legacy'

It's no secret that movie soundtracks form an important part of the promotional mix for any blockbusting film heading to your nearest cinema -- witness the recent brouhaha surrounding the latest 'Twilight' motion picture -- but it looks as if Gallic dance duo Daft Punk are set to release the most anticipated soundtrack of the year, as they lend their beats to 'Tron: Legacy.'Though no official announcement has been made, Amazon.com has listed the release of the album as Nov. 23 via Walt Disney Records. While this may cue countless jokes concerning a label signing Mickey Mouse bands, the story is given extra weight considering that the film -- a sequel to the 1982 hit 'Tron,' -- is hitting movie theatres on Dec. 17.
Reports in SlashFilm indicate fans may not have to wait that long for a taste of the soundtrack. It's expected that a trailer for the film -- including soundtrack snippets -- will be shown at this year's San Diego Comic-Con International, the world's largest comic book convention, held July 22 to 25. Disney execs shocked fans two years ago when a teaser for the film was unexpectedly shown at the convention.
Daft Punk are understood to be making a cameo in 'Tron: Legacy' as a pair of -- what else? -- MP3 programmes. The film stars Jeff Bridges and Michael Sheen.
