Daniel Cho, Cellist for Regina Spektor, Reportedly Drowns in Lake Geneva

Daniel Cho, a cellist for Regina Spektor, reportedly drowned Tuesday, July 6, in Lake Geneva, Switzerland, according to Geneva Lunch. The tragedy happened a day before Spektor's scheduled gig at the Montreux Jazz Festival.Cho, who performed with Spektor on Spinner's Interface in 2009, attended the Berklee College of Music and was currently living in Brooklyn, N.Y. In addition to working with Spektor, his resume as an arranger and cellist included work for Katy Perry, John Mayer, Mandy Moore, Rachael Yamagata and Coldplay. Cho also had a rock band of his own called Cooper, whose songs have been featured on MTV's 'The Hills' and NBC's 'The Biggest Loser.'
Spektor still managed to take the stage at Montreux, where she was described as distraught and in tears. She made it through her performance, with several breaks needed for her to regain her composure.
In addition to his musical career, Cho was also a correspondent for ESPN Soccernet, where he's been covering South Korea's World Cup team. His original cello and piano compositions can be heard at his MySpace page.

We were priveledged to see their Montreux show - and it certainly affected us. Raw and honest. Sad. A tribute to their spirit. Thank you.

God Rest, God Bless, Dan.
My sorrow for his family and for Regina. We don't know why this happens but it does. I wish his family strength to somehow get through this and Regina, you are so brave. Daniel no doubt enjoyed the concert from above.

He was hilarious (to say the least), humble & one of the few people who actually reach for their dreams & succeed. A fine, fine musician... didn't seem to care if you were Regina Spektor or Joe from down the block.. he'd hit those cello or piano parts the same either way.
I'm glad to see there's some press coverage on this. I'm sure his wife & young daughter will one day read these & take comfort in the positive comments about the impact Dan had on people who he didn't know personally.
I was at the gig in Montreux. It was really sad, and the audience was unsure how to react. Mostly supportive, but also keen to hear Regina play. She broke down in a couple of songs and played a mostly reflective, sombre set, only a little like the one in Bonnaroo. The violinist did a tribute piece to Cho and the whole thing gfelt like a wake.
It was hot down in Montreux, but the climate is pleasant when warm and you don't really need aircon. People swim in the lake all the time because it is refreshing, enjoyable and unbelievably scenic. Lake Geneva is unbelievably beautiful and mostly very safe to swim in. I can't conjecture about what caused Cho's death - it would be harsh to attribute alcohol although that is sadly often a contributory factor.
The day after the gig I was up early down at the Lakeside and the police were pulling a body out. Don't know if it was Cho's. But it was creepy knowing he had died in the lake only a couple of days earlier.
Such a shame for the world to lose such a talented musician... Condolences... RIP

IGNORE the moron and stay focused on the subject....when such an awesome talent is lost, we all lose something but his family has lost evern more! May they find comfort and peace at this time as they come to terms with losing such a loved person and musician. May GOD be with you in your time of loss.
