Promoters told fans, who had already begun filing in for the concert, that the show would be rescheduled. That was hardly comforting news to the throngs of Doherty devotees who were both worried about his well-being and safety as well as being dismayed that the show -- whom many fans traveled long distances to attend -- was called off.
Indeed, Doherty is seemingly always getting himself into trouble one way or another and his battles with drugs and other demons have been highly publicized. Perhaps, as a result of that, when concertgoers were told he had been hospitalized, many feared that it was related to those battles. It may be wise to keep in mind that Doherty has been hospitalized before, including last fall when he was treated for exhaustion, forcing the cancellation of several gigs. No details of his current hospitalization are known at this time.
Doherty is scheduled to reunite with his former band, the Libertines, for a set of highly-anticipated performances at the Reading and Leeds festivals at the end of August.
