Fresh from his band's triumphant headlining set at Scotland's T in the Park festival, Muse's bassist Chris Wolstenholme revealed the band would be commencing work on their sixth studio album as soon as next year, according to the NME.Wolstenholme admitted the band will take some time off after the current tour -- which doesn't end until Dec. 19 in Perth, Australia -- but reassured fans that "we'll definitely start working on a new album next year." He explained that a break would be necessary however, saying "it's something we've never done. I think the most time we've had off is about six weeks in the last 12 years, so we're due a break."
The interview came on the weekend of a T In The Park performance that saw the group further cement their position as one of the biggest bands in the world. This year's already seen an appearance on the latest 'Twilight' soundtrack, a huge Glastonbury headlining performance and, most importantly for the band, mainstream acceptance in the USA. "With America it was something we never really expected to happen," enthused Wolstenholme, "so I think it was one of those things we really appreciated, hopefully it'll carry on."
Muse still have another nine festival dates to complete, including Fuji Rock in Japan on July 30, and Sziget in Hungary on Aug. 15, before two dates at Wembley Stadium on Sep. 10 and 11 -- their first return there since 2007. The group finish the year with a three month stint that takes in both the USA and Australia.
