Having already played the album in full for the 30th anniversary of singer Ian Curtis' death, former Joy Division bassist Peter Hook is to give the iconic band's 1979 debut album, 'Unknown Pleasures,' a new slant when he performs it with his current band, the Light, and an orchestra and choir. The low-slung bassist is set to bring his new version of the much loved seminal album to the Vintage at Goodwood festival in Sussex on Aug. 15. Inspired by music and fashion from the 1940s through to the 1980s, the festival is also set to feature performances from the reformed Faces (with Simply Red's Mick Hucknall standing in for Rod Stewart and Sex Pistols' bassist Glen Matlock substituting the late Ronnie Lane), electronic pioneers Heaven 17 and punk survivors the Damned.
In addition to the extra musicians, Hook will be joined former Happy Mondays backing singer Rowetta. Prior to that, Hook will give a performance of 'Unknown Pleasures' at the 1234 Festival in Shoreditch, London on Saturday, July 24.
Vintage at Goodwood will mark the first occasion that any of the surviving members of Joy Division have taken 'Unknown Pleasures' from its original rock format and placed it in a different context.
