Guided By Voices Announce Reunion Tour
- Posted on Jul 15th 2010 2:40PM by Mike Ayers

Also scheduled is an appearance on 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon' for Nov. 4. Matador label mates Times New Viking will serve as openers for the West Coast dates and Portland, Ore.'s Blitzen Trapper will open the final three East Coast shows.
As previously reported, the tour will feature the "classic" GBV lineup, consisting of Tobin Sprout and Charles Mitchell on guitars, Greg Demos on bass and Kevin Fennel on drums. Selected songs from the albums 'Propeller,' 'Bee Thousand,' 'Alien Lanes' and 'Under the Bushes, Under the Stars' will be featured at each show.
Tickets will go on sale at various dates throughout the rest of July, but many shows will be on sale this Friday, July 16. Curious fans take note: after the band plays Columbus, Ohio's Outside Live on Oct. 16, there are a handful of free dates before their next gig in Washington D.C on Oct. 21. Could GBV's beloved home state of Ohio be due for a few more shows? We'll have to wait and see, but it looks like the calendar's clear.

some of you people need to get wise to the fact that this wasn't some fly by night band. so to marginalize them as some blip on the 90's radar is totally ridiculous. they were a diamond in amongst countless turds that a bunch of you ill informed dummies hold dear. while the lot of you were singing the praises of c + c music factory and depeche mode....there were real bands making real music. get with it or keep quiet.

July 26 2010 at 7:27 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHappy to see that GBV are still rock n roll's best kept secret. In the time it took you dolts to type "never heard of em" Uncle Bob wrote 5 songs (and 3 of em are classics!). Long live GBV!!!!

July 23 2010 at 2:35 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replywith all due respect, to the music lovers who haven't heard of GBV or Robert Pollard: check it out. I have never heard or been in the presence of a more talented and giving artist. My indie cred? worked at the RAT, TT the Bears and The mighty MIDDLE EAST in Boston and Cambridge in the 80's. I have seen plenty of bands but I myself did not find GBV until 2002-2003. I missed so much but have received so much since then. GBV and Robert Pollard have given me more in the last 7 years than I ever had before. And their music has made me appreciate the other music I love that much more because the same thread is in that music, the love of creation and communication. But you HAVE to invest time. It's like peeling an onion or getting to the heart of an artichoke or the pearl in the oyster. And this is why a lot of people don't get it or haven't heard of it. The people who HAVE protect it and the people who only half heartedly try to listen can't get it until they really listen and see. Unfortunately GBV 'broke' precisely when the whole industry started going to shit, and millions of people have been done a disservice by not hearing them. Robert Pollards' music is so human I have seen the toughest guys in the world be driven to sobbing wrecks with just the sheer honesty of it. Their fans have come from Japan, Sweden, and Australia just to see one solo Robert Pollard show in Kentucky or Dayton. This man is an artist in the true sense of the word, someone who creates because they are compelled to. I could go on but you need to be called to it. Maybe you are so mad about never hearing about them because deep down you know you need it. Take a listen. For me, I am so psyched these shows are selling out in a year where live music is suffering. GBV live is unlike anything you've ever experienced Get a ticket! GBV getting what they deserve. The Club is Open. giddy up!

It's pretty cool of NBC to give some band nobody has ever heard of a chance.
The Geebs rule! We don't want you to like them. You'll never get it and don't have the time anyway. Stay away! I'm warning you! You can't handle this band. Robert Pollard drinks your milkshakes. All of you!

July 22 2010 at 8:55 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe term music fan must mean that they have always shopped at some big box music store for music their whole life.
But I have seen GBV record even in those stores, so I get the feeling people really should pay more attention then listening to Clear Channel radio.
I've had my head up my ass for almost 25 years, and although I'm a "music" fan, I've never heard of these guys.
Oh. Wait. My head was up my ass, wasn't it?
never mind.
"Music fan" is a loose term around these parts, I take it.
