Many rock fans can relate to the sentiment of Young the Giant's new song, 'My Body.' With a pounding drum beat paired with guitar hooks galore, lead singer Sameer Gadhia declares that his body tells him no, but he won't quit. It's just not an option, as the simple-yet-catchy chorus reflects an optimism you typically see in youth and those who don't think they're too old for mosh pits. "'My Body' came together very naturally for us," Gadhia tells Spinner. "We feel it really embodies Young the Giant: A combination of youthful energy and slightly naïve but optimistic determination. It captures a sense of passion, urgency and excitement that we've felt throughout the writing and recording process over the past two years."
The young five-piece from Newport Beach, Calif. have been gaining a steady following out West over the last several years, with initial support coming from KROQ behind their 2008 tune 'Cough Syrup.' In 2010, they've been busy supporting the likes of Steel Train and Minus the Bear, while also working with producer Joe Chiccarelli (White Stripes, the Shins, My Morning Jacket) on their first full-length album, due later this year.
Young the Giant have lined up a California residency throughout the month of August, playing weekly in Los Angeles, San Diego and Cosa Mesa, starting Aug. 1 at L.A.'s Troubadour. Check out 'My Body' below.
