Camp Bisco Creates Bond Between the Disco Biscuits and Their Fans

With bands such as LCD Soundsystem, Ween and Thievery Corporation joining artists as varied as Method Man and Talib Kweli for a three-day festival, it may seem like it'd be easy to forget that Camp Bisco is a product of the Disco Biscuits. But as anybody who attended the festival, held in a remote location just outside Albany, Ny this past weekend, can attest, it just doesn't work like that."The experience of Camp Bisco is about so many things, but first and foremost it is about working together with the fans to create the best festival ever," bassist Marc Brownstein tells Spinner. That statement rings especially true for the hardcore Disco Biscuits followers -- in addition to multiple sets per day, various members of the band sat in with other groups and performed with their respective side-projects during late-night sets in a special VIP tent. The band members generally made themselves accessible to the more than 12,000 fans in attendance, golf-carting around the campgrounds and watching other bands perform as well. The Biscuits even chose their song list for the weekend based on requests they received directly from their fans, via Facebook.
"The people working, building the stage, setting up the hospitality, promoting the show -- and even many who play the festival -- started out as young kids who were fans of the Disco Biscuits and have been inspired to get involved in what they love," says Brownstein. "It gives me chills to think about it." Now that it's over, fans are already taking bets on the lineup for next year. Of course, we already know who the headliner will be.
