Pearl Jam Publicist Downplays Eddie Vedder's Remarks About Band's Future

The future of Pearl Jam is ever so slightly clearer after their publicist denied that a recent statement from frontman Eddie Vedder meant the band was about to go on hiatus. The Seattle Weekly was told by PR Nicole Vandenburg that the comments made by Vedder at the Optimus Alive festival in Portugal last week - as previously reported by Spinner - were probably "lost in translation."
The singer had thanked the crowd at the festival on July 11 for coming to their "last show in a long time."
But Vadenburg has moved to play down the comments, citing that Vedder's announcement -- made in Portuguese -- had simply meant their current live jaunt was coming to a close.
She said, "He says that at the end of all tours, because the tour has ended. The remark may have gotten a little lost in translation."
His apparent revelations had come somewhat as a surprise, as the Seattle band had recently headlined the Friday night of the Hard Rock Calling festival in London's Hyde Park on June 25 and had enjoyed a positive response for its 2009 album 'Backspacer.'
