The band, which has been nominated for the 2010 prize for its album 'Total Life Forever,' had thought it was going to London's Hospital Club yesterday (July 20) for press duties.
Frontman Yannis Philippakis told NME.com, "We're really shocked. We didn't know about it until five minutes before the announcement. We were tricked by the people who work for us into thinking we were here for some other reason.
"We were in Spain and we had two days off, but they told us to fly back to do some press. We were kind of angry, so now it's made the trip worthwhile."
When asked about how he would spend the £20,000 ($30,500) prize money, Phillipakkis said he would get a "nose job" and would "upgrade" his girlfriend.
As previously reported by Spinner, other acts vying for the coveted prize include the XX, Dizzee Rascal and Paul Weller, who is included 16 years after his first nomination.
The winner will be announced on Sept. 7.
