Moverman said, "It'll be raw and chaotic, which is what Cobain's life was like."
The New York-based director previously worked on the 2007 Bob Dylan biopic, 'I'm Not There,' that featured a range of actors playing the lead role, including Cate Blanchett.
Moverman co-wrote its script with Todd Haynes, but explained the Cobain film, partially based on the biography 'Heavier Than Heaven' by Charles R. Cross, will be more linear.
He told NME.com, "It'll take you from A to Z. People know the shortcut version -- he took a lot of heroin, wrote 'Smells Like Teen Spirit,' became the biggest rock star in the world and killed himself. Those known things about him are to me the least interesting."
Still in its formative stages, the Universal/Working Title project is being executive produced by Courtney Love.
As previously reported by Spinner, Cobain's widow has mooted Ryan Gosling and James McAvoy to play her ex-husband, while Robert Pattinson has declared his non-interest. Love remarked in April that casting him would be a mistake, to which the 'Twilight' star responded that she was a "dick."
