Featuring the likes of Yo La Tengo, the Lemonheads' Evan Dando and Jesse Malin, the concert -- 'Channelling Chilton: A Night of Alex Chilton's Music' -- is a chance for performers and fans alike to say goodbye to the songwriter who died of a heart attack in March.
Organised by City Winery, the Measure reports that part of the proceeds from the event will go to the Gulf Restoration Network – a project set up to help people affected by the BP drilling disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.
Alongside members of Big Star, other acts confirmed to appear include Marshall Crenshaw, Jon Spencer and Chilton's original band the Box Tops. More acts are still to be confirmed.
The announcement comes not long after the death of Big Star's original bassist Andy Hummel who passed away on July 19 after a two-year struggle with cancer.
