Boxer Rebellion, Airborne Toxic Event Lead 'Going the Distance' Soundtrack

New tracks from the Boxer Rebellion and the Airborne Toxic Event are among the 16 songs anchoring the new Drew Barrymore and Justin Long film, 'Going the Distance.' For the Boxer Rebellion, the band contributes the original song 'If You Run,' as well as 'Spitting Fire' and 'Evacuate,' both plucked from their 2009 release 'Union.' But maybe even more of a coup is that they join Barrymore and Long as actors, playing themselves and performing 'If You Run.'

"The whole thing came about after our first US show last year at the Troubadour in L.A," guitarist Todd Howe tells Spinner. "Some of the guys involved with the film at New Line really loved our music and approached us to be in it. They sent over the script and it was hilarious. It was one those things we'd have been mad to turn down."

Also of note is the Airborne Toxic Event's new tune 'Half of Something Else,' which could be on the band's forthcoming follow-up to its 2008 self-titled debut. Other contemporary tracks include Cat Power's smooth and soulful 'Could We' from 2007's 'The Greatest,' 'Prizefighter' from Eels and a remixed version of Passion Pit's 'The Reeling.'

And it wouldn't be a Barrymore flick without explicit nods to the '80s. The Cure's 'Just Like Heaven,' the Pretenders' 'Don't Get Me Wrong' and the Replacements' 'Here Comes a Regular' help balance out the more mellow indie pop of Fanfarlo's 'Harold T. Wilkins, Or How to Wait for a Very Long Time' and Katie Herzig's 'Hey Na Na.'

'Going the Distance' is a romantic comedy in which Barrymore and Long -- who date in real life -- find themselves pulled apart by a long-distance relationship. The film hits theaters Aug. 27, with the soundtrack arriving on Aug. 24.
