Deadmau5, also known as Toronto DJ and producer Joel Thomas Zimmerman, collapsed during a performance at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., suffering what's being described as "exhaustion and vomiting" in a statement on his website.
The pertinent details are as follows:
"Last night, whilst performing onstage at the 9:30 club in Washington DC, deadmau5 collapsed, suffering exhaustion and vomiting. Medics at the venue took him directly to hospital where he is now under supervision. deadmau5 is sad to advise his fans that on the strict advice of the doctors, he now has no choice but to cancel the next 9 shows of his Summer tour schedule to allow for his recovery."
In addition to his main stage slot at Osheaga, Deadmau5's canceled shows include upcoming dates in Spain, Italy, Greece, Hungary, Croatia and Japan, where he was set to perform at Summer Sonic 2010 in both Tokyo and Osaka. All dates are being rescheduled.
Known for performing in a giant cartoon mouse head -- Deadmau5 obviously translates to "dead mouse," and his moniker came from finding a dead mouse inside his computer when he was changing a video card -- Deadmau5 was set to assume the Mountain Stage, one of two main stages, at Osheaga as of 8:35PM tonight. Due to his cancellation, organizers at Osheaga have moved another Toronto act, Metric, into Deadmau5's slot.
Continuing the schedule updating, Sonic Youth replace Metric on the River Stage -- the other main stage -- at 7:35PM, and as there is no one to fill their slot on the Green Stage, the John Spencer Blues Explosion has had its set extended, and Devo's set will start early.
The updated schedule can be seen here.
