Madina Lake's Matthew Leone Recovering After Second Surgery

Madina Lake bassist Matthew Leone's condition is improving, his twin brother and bandmate Nathan told NME this weekend. In June, Leone was assaulted while trying to help a woman who was being beaten by her husband on a Chicago street. A third of his skull had to be removed in order to relieve the swelling in his brain."My brother's recently been through some difficult times," Nathan said. "It's been an impossible situation for a month and I've seen some things and gone through some things that I'd never wish upon my worst enemy. But most importantly, he's survived a second significant surgery and is on his way to recovery."
Nathan also said that there could still be many issues affecting Matthew in the long run. As Matthew had no health insurance, the Smashing Pumpkins held a benefit show in Chicago on July 27 that raised over $80,000 for his medical bills via ticket sales and auctions.
Justin Pivec, a 33-year-old Chicago resident, was arrested on July 2 and charged with "aggravated battery causing great bodily harm" to Leone and for battery against his 29-year-old wife.

What a wonderful young man, stepping up to the plate to help out this young woman. I will continually pray for his healing and that he can go on and have a good life. It is so unfortunate that he is suffering and the piece of dirt that injured him walks away with a slap on the hand. This dirtbag should spend the rest of his life in jail because the way I look at it he is an attempted murderer and he will most likely be a repeater and yes he should be the one paying all the bills and more.

I never heard of him or his band.....but it would be a better world if more people would care about others as he did....I'll buy his album and look to see if they have a website to contribute to.....Hope he recovers soon !!!

Thanks to the Smashing Pumkins for caring enough to help the guy out with medical bills. That was a wonderful thing to do. As for the injuried guy who went to help a woman from possibly being killed, life will be hard for you for awhile, but I promise you, you will be rewarded in the end with wonderments you can't imagaine. Now for the asshole who did the beatings, he should rot in a dark, damp cell, and once a day allow prisnors to come in and beat the crap out of him. You are evil and will answer for it in the end.

Way to go Matthew. I don't even know you, or your band, but I like you for being human enough to try & help someone who cannot protect themself. So sorry your are in the hospital for it. While I am sad you are badly injured for it, it makes a statment for your generation that you have values strong enough that your own safety was not an issue and that you are about the right things. Hey Justin? I am a 52 year old Detoit guy who would love to have you in an alley for about 5 minutes. The cops would NOT be able to save you. Punk.
