Morrissey Tells Katy Perry 'Not to Marry Russell Brand'

Morrissey is many things: singer, songwriter, vegetarian, contrarian. Now, added to that list is ... marriage counsellor?

Morrissey has told Katy Perry not to marry British comedian Russell Brand, putting a downer on what will probably be one of those celebrity weddings of the year.

Perry told The Sun: "I met Morrissey for the first time the other day and we had tea together. He's Russell's mate and he is fascinating, but he was giving us a hard time about getting married. He swooned and sighed, 'Oh, left hand third finger, don't do it.' It was just so eloquent and poetic and like one of his songs."

Brand has always been a big fan of the Smiths and Morrissey, famously naming his cat after the singer.

Perry also revealed that Morrissey has been extended an invitation to the event, saying, "It would be great to have him at the wedding but I told him, 'We can't have a Mr Misery like you messing things up.' It's going to be a small ceremony, so I don't think we'll have a proper band. I'd love to have Morrissey."

Morrissey as the wedding singer? There may be a limit to the songs he could play at the autumn wedding -- 'Will Never Marry?' 'You're The One For Me, Fatty?' 'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now?'

Perhaps Morrissey's reaction has something to do with what Perry recently told Q magazine (via The Sun) about her attempts to alter Brand's taste in music: "Russell's all about the Stone Roses, Oasis and Morrissey.

"But I'm experimenting on him. Singing new stuff, like Animal Collective, MGMT and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. He says they look like they're in the same band. He has a point. But I've also introduced him to great new English singers, like Ellie Goulding."
