While the video game company included a double-disc compilation of Jay-Z and Eminem tracks with 'DJ Hero' in 2009, this is the first time a full album will be packaged with a video game. Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell hopes this partnership will reintroduce the band's devotees to their music as well as create a new fan base.
"There are a lot of different ways to get your music out ... This clearly to me is one way to do that," Cornell told USA Today. "'Guitar Hero' has actually turned on a lot of young music fans to music that they otherwise might not have ever heard."
'Black Rain,' a previously unreleased track that's on 'Telephantasm,' will be among the 90-plus songs available on 'Warriors of Rock,' with other Soundgarden tracks requiring an additional download to become playable.
Although the album-game package doesn't hit stores until Sept.28, USA Today reports that 'Telephantasm' will officially go platinum once the game ships out that day. As for Soundgarden's return to music, the band is taking it day by day. "Our goal now is to do what we always wanted to do, which is to -- at our own pace and in our own time -- just do what we want when we want to do it," Cornell said. "Whether it's shows, songs, whatever it might be, records, we'll know when we get there."
If you're not a big gamer, three expanded versions of 'Telephantasm: A Retrospective' release on Sept. 28 while the CD version will be available on Oct. 5.
