Standard Fare -- Listen Up!
- Posted on Aug 5th 2010 5:00PM by Rob Smy
We're constantly getting turned on to new music here at Spinner HQ. Between our Free MP3 of the Day and weekly Free CD Listening Party, we hope you are too. To help further the cause, we're gonna bring you our personal must-hear music picks with Listen Up! -- Spinner's weekly spotlight on staff-approved artists who rock our world.
Who: Standard Fare
Hail From: Sheffield, England
Why We Love Them: Ever worn the "indie kid" uniform (one pair of Doc Marten boots and one over-stretched jumper) and felt the need to pogo up and down with a big cheesy grin on your face? Then this Yorkshire trio is for you. Replete with plenty of Smiths-esque jangle and lovelorn lyricism, the energy the threesome project is entirely infectious.
Essential Listening: 'Dancing' (MP3 Download)

Exclusive Q&A With Singer Emma Kupa:
What's your favorite album right now?
It's the new album by a band from Boston called One Happy Island. We covered one of their songs at a festival recently and I can't stop listening to the new album.
Tell us about the first concert you ever saw.
My first rock concert was a birthday celebration and the one night reforming of my mother's anarchist punk band the Poison Girls. I remember all these young punks climbing up onto the stage, kissing the singer who was turning 60 and then crowd surfing away again.
What's your biggest vice?
Sugar! Or checking my emails.
What's the story behind your band name?
I saw it on a sign in a bus and thought it described our band quite well at the time.
If you could tour with one band for 3 months, who would it be? Why?
Probably Allo Darlin' as we've had such a great time playing shows with them and they are good friends. We'd have a great time in between and we love their music too so could dance the night away every night.
