He also described fobbing off the Gallagher brothers backstage after the gig, which was held to pay tribute to Ahmet Ertegun, the founder of Atlantic Records.
Plant, who is regularly cooling speculation of another reunion between the surviving Zeppelin members, told Mojo magazine, "Well, what could you do afterwards ...? Twenty minutes after we finished, the Gallagher brothers were leaning on the door of my dressing room and one of them said, 'You're the real f---ing thing, you are.' I said, 'I've known that all down the line -- but I think you need to go a little further round the corridor, next door on the left.' And I went."
He added: "[I} ended up in the Marathon [pub in Camden], drank four bottles of Keo [lager] and half a bottle of vodka then went to bed. Because I had to get away from it. I'd done it. Had to go.
"[It was] too heavy. Beautiful - but talk about examining your own mortality ... Crazy."
This week Plant announced three additional dates for his 'Band Of Joy' solo tour this October, with new shows in Edinburgh, Gateshead and Liverpool. He plays a one-off show at the Forum in London on Sept. 2.

I think Robert is being incredibly selfish by not doing a reunion, he doesn't think about his fans. And think about the music history to be made with Jason Bonham on drugs for John. It would be the biggest music event of all time.

in the early 70's Joe Walsh hit the circuit with his new group "Barn Storm", I was looking over their first record they made and engraved in the blank space between the label and the last grooves was "recorded loud to be played loud",on the "B" side engraved in the same area Joe left the comment,"Call it in the air" you know as it being the "flip side" lol, lol, ummm yeah whatever.Sorry about going on and on but those tunes like Zep Floyd and the rest was part of an era I wont soon forget even thru all the haze.
I hope we all remember those days..it is almost 40 years and despite the haze back then.. those of us who made it ..cherish those days

August 07 2010 at 1:08 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe closest thing I saw to Led Zeppelin was Bonham, the band that John Bonhams' son formed. They were the opening act for Emerson,Lake, and Palmer at the Universal Ampitheater in 1992. They played some old Zeppelin tunes with John on the drums, and the lead singer sound just like Robert Plant. They were great, but its to bad it wasn't the real Zeppelin. I remember that day like it was testerday in a high school class room when the death on John Bonham was announced.

Those songs, lyrics, relationships, and associated memories mean different things now surely. Sure, they could do it for the money grab - and we would eat it up. Artists move forward, not backwards.

The show was about 1/3 Zep songs, 1/3 solo stuff (including the one with Alison Krause), and about 1/3 were songs from the upcoming Band of Joy record, due out next month. Great show!!
August 06 2010 at 11:38 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHe can't sing Zep's songs in their original keys any longer and for whatever reason(s) they don't transpose them into a key that he can sing them in. JPJ would be needed for that as he was the brainchild behind the structure of EVERY Led Zep song and they do not ask him about reuniting. A shame that Robert and Jimmy's egos get in the way of them sharing all of their blues riff rip-offs...,err...,I mean their songs with all of us again.
