Led Zeppelin Reunion Show 'Too Heavy' for Robert Plant

Robert Plant has revealed that the famous Led Zeppelin reunion show at the O2 Arena in 2007 was "too heavy" for him, and that after the show he had to slink away and have a few quiet drinks on his own.

He also described fobbing off the Gallagher brothers backstage after the gig, which was held to pay tribute to Ahmet Ertegun, the founder of Atlantic Records.

Plant, who is regularly cooling speculation of another reunion between the surviving Zeppelin members, told Mojo magazine, "Well, what could you do afterwards ...? Twenty minutes after we finished, the Gallagher brothers were leaning on the door of my dressing room and one of them said, 'You're the real f---ing thing, you are.' I said, 'I've known that all down the line -- but I think you need to go a little further round the corridor, next door on the left.' And I went."

He added: "[I} ended up in the Marathon [pub in Camden], drank four bottles of Keo [lager] and half a bottle of vodka then went to bed. Because I had to get away from it. I'd done it. Had to go.

"[It was] too heavy. Beautiful - but talk about examining your own mortality ... Crazy."

This week Plant announced three additional dates for his 'Band Of Joy' solo tour this October, with new shows in Edinburgh, Gateshead and Liverpool. He plays a one-off show at the Forum in London on Sept. 2.

Led Zeppelin were one of the greatest heavy metal bands ever and it's sad that they will never perform again. Regardless, I wish Plant, Jones, and Page the best.

Zep and Pink Floyd were my all timefavorite band back in the San Francisco "hippy" days.Personally?,I want to remember Led Zepplin as they were so leave them as they were.I remember Bobby in his first interview after Zepp broke up going ond on about almost wrecking his voice permanently trying to sing most of the original Led Zepplin tunes. When I was living in San Francisco I believe 1966 possibly early '67 a bunch of friends and I were strolling down the Embarcadero and hearing this music that was unique and damn near rocked my socks off,it was emanating from the old Longshoremans Hall,we went over and bought tickets (a whole $3.50 at the door!!)to get in and find out who was creating that beautiful sound!!,when we entered you could have shot a 12 gauge inside and not hit a soul!,we found out the band was named Led Zepplin and I believe it was their first concert in America!!,Also I believe that was the show that Bobby threw the mic up into the rafters and just about that time Bill Graham walked in screaming expletives at Bobby so,since he was the Guru of the mic toss threw the mic out into te crowd and naled Graham in the center of his forehead!!,I dont remember why Graham was acting like somebody whizzed in his Wheaties but, from that point on there was no love lost between them atleast until later years.
in the early 70's Joe Walsh hit the circuit with his new group "Barn Storm", I was looking over their first record they made and engraved in the blank space between the label and the last grooves was "recorded loud to be played loud",on the "B" side engraved in the same area Joe left the comment,"Call it in the air" you know as it being the "flip side" lol, lol, ummm yeah whatever.Sorry about going on and on but those tunes like Zep Floyd and the rest was part of an era I wont soon forget even thru all the haze.

The closest thing I saw to Led Zeppelin was Bonham, the band that John Bonhams' son formed. They were the opening act for Emerson,Lake, and Palmer at the Universal Ampitheater in 1992. They played some old Zeppelin tunes with John on the drums, and the lead singer sound just like Robert Plant. They were great, but its to bad it wasn't the real Zeppelin. I remember that day like it was testerday in a high school class room when the death on John Bonham was announced.

Really...who wants to go back to the life they lived 30 years ago. Those songs, lyrics, relationships, and associated memories mean different things now surely. Sure, they could do it for the money grab - and we would eat it up. Artists move forward, not backwards.

To me, Led Zepp was the band I saw in 1974 at 17 yrs old. The greatest band then, and the greatest memory of a band in my mind now. That was the Zepp. Some memories are best kept frozen in time.

I saw Robert Plant's show in Tulsa a couple of weeks ago, and he looked and sounded great, as did his Band of Joy, especially guitarist Buddy Miller, who, in my opinion, can play circles around Jimmy Page. The show was about 1/3 Zep songs, 1/3 solo stuff (including the one with Alison Krause), and about 1/3 were songs from the upcoming Band of Joy record, due out next month. Great show!!

He can't sing Zep's songs in their original keys any longer and for whatever reason(s) they don't transpose them into a key that he can sing them in. JPJ would be needed for that as he was the brainchild behind the structure of EVERY Led Zep song and they do not ask him about reuniting. A shame that Robert and Jimmy's egos get in the way of them sharing all of their blues riff rip-offs...,err...,I mean their songs with all of us again.
