Launching into their straightforward yet surprisingly effective hit 'Lights and Music,' frontman Dan Whitford strutted and stomped as the crowd, hands in the air, sang and danced along. Wasting no time, the band followed up with bouncy track 'Far Away' and then treated the massive crowd to the aptly titled new tune 'Where I'm Going,' an anthemic rocker that represents a slight departure from their usual new wave fare.
Crowd pleasers 'Feel the Love,' 'So Haunted' and 'Nobody Lost, Nobody Found' rounded out the set, which was, thanks to the park's waterfront location and the lively crowd, nothing if not a thumping spectacular. Whitford himself paid tribute to the magical evening, requesting that concertgoers take pictures of the Manhattan skyline and "upload them to Flickr."
They ended with the charmingly simple 'Hearts on Fire' before, to the delight of everyone in attendance, playing an encore that defied the park's 7PM curfew. Sweaty and steady, they motored through an exuberant rendition of 'Sands of Time' and 'Out There on the Ice' before making their exit into the New York City night.
