Skybox is the creation of Tim Ellis, Christian Fields, Mike Holtz and Dan…
Skybox Channel Lady Gaga at First Lollapalooza

In homage to Lady Gaga's first Lollapalooza set three years ago -- on the same stage during the same time slot -- Skybox frontman Tim Ellis donned a shiney disco bra for the band's closer 'In a Dream' on the BMI stage. The disco bra, though not the same one Ellis was wearing, was a staple of Gaga's Friday headlining set when the singer brought it out in one of her costume changes as a nod to her leap from small to big stage.
For the unsigned Chicago-based Skybox, who channel the confetti and costume bonanza of a Flaming Lips-meets-Of Montreal show, the nod to the disco bra could eventually serve the same purpose. One can hope.
Two albums deep, Skybox -- Tim Ellis, Christian Fields, Mike Holtz and Sean Brennan -- have been touring relentlessly behind their latest self-released album 'Morning After Cuts.' And despite having played all around Chicago, frontman Ellis told Spinner earlier that day that playing their first Lollapalooza is more monumental than any previous band accomplishment.
Despite the noon timeslot, Skybox fans were prevalent, which was evident when the sea of headbobbers turned a little more frantic during the opening riffs of 'Kitchen Utensils' -- one of the band's more popular early songs that helped get them blog recognition and spots on tour with Man Man and Ben Folds. Other songs during the bands set (which saw Ellis strip down to his boxers by the end) included 'Trout,' featuring poignant harmonies from Ellis and keyboardist Christian Fields, as well as 'Light,' 'Plastic Cups' and 'Fences.'
And while it's a long road to the main stage, Ellis and company's decision to end the set with 'In a Dream' was fitting, considering the closing lyric: "I Can Dream."
