Van Halen Recording New Album With David Lee Roth

Hard rock legends Van Halen are hard at work on a new album with original vocalist David Lee Roth, according to a statement made late last week by its music publishers. Various reports also suggest the group will hit the road upon the LP's completion sometime next year.

"The band is currently in the studio recording an album with Roth that is due for release in 2011," read an announcement by Warner/Chappell, which announced the Van Halen camp had renewed its longstanding deal. The album with Roth would mark the first time the singer has appeared on a full album of new music with the group since '1984' was released more than a quarter century ago.

Billboard also revealed that Live Nation Promotions Executive Irving Azoff -- who serves as the band's manager -- spoke of the 2011 tour during a conference about concert industry earnings on Aug. 5.

Van Halen's last proper studio album, 'Van Halen III' was recorded in 1998 with Extreme frontman Gary Cherone on vocals. The band and Roth put aside their longstanding differences in 2008 for a successful North American tour.

But, will it be Wolfie on bass? I'd rather see them with Anthony. That would truly be a reunion.

Get Michael Anthony back on the bass and Ted Templeman back on the board in the studio and you have the REAL VAN HALEN!!! Good news, glad to see Eddie's back!!!!

@JiMbOB, if by "completely irrelevant" you mean, it has influenced an entire generation of musicians to a degree that few bands ever have, then you are right. You are clueless. VH is and has always been a cornerstone of Rock. and btw, what you call "modern music," those of us in the know call "mostly crap."

Having said that, I REALLY hope these guys make it happen, and make it ROCK. It's not 1984 anymore, we all know that, but I think they have ONE GREAT ALBUM left in them, judging from the performance I saw on the Reunion Run. If so, they would redeem themselves in my eyes, and many others' eyes as well. Yes they've tarnished a once-amazing legacy, but they can turn it around with a Gem.

Fingers and Toes crossed!!!!

Please no stupid love songs...Early VH songs were all about partying, chicks and drinking! Then they got Sammy and it was all about stupid love songs! (GAY!) GO BACK TO THE PARTY FORMULA GUYS! IT WORKED!

DLR is a douche - always has been. More "look" than "cook", a one - trick pony. I thought he sucked when he was 25, so I`m sure, at age 55. he is god-awful horrible. Sammy was a true singer and professional that added depth to their music. Unfortunately, the bulk of VH fans didn`t want professionalism or music with substance. They would rather have a spandex-wearing assclown wailing party-till-you-puke tunes. And it`s sad to see fans, also middle-aged now, getting all excited over this rehashed juvenile shlt.

I'll believe it when I see it but I'm very hopeful. A new album with Roth would be awesome but the absence of Michael Anthony is just wrong. I loved both eras of VH but they were their best with Sammy behind the microphone. I don't care who it is...I want some new VH! Eddie, please don't screw it up!

I never really liked Eddie's guitar playing.
