Land of Talk, 'Quarry Hymns' -- Song Premiere

When Elizabeth Powell had to cancel Land of Talk's 2009 tour due to a hemorrhagic vocal polyp, she didn't just stay in bed and hope to regain her voice. Instead, the frontwoman and one-time touring member of Broken Social Scene decided to get back in the songwriting groove and work on the band's follow-up to 2008's 'Some Are Lakes.'

Now Powell and her fellow bandmates are back with 'Quarry Hymns,' a new song off of their sophomore record, 'Cloak and Cipher,' due out Aug. 24 on Saddle Creek. For the track, Land of Talk enlisted Arcade Fire drummer/multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Gara to take over the rhythm section, which blends nicely with Powell's gentle voice. And while the song may have an airy and light feel, Powell's lyrics convey a sadder story. To hear it for yourself, check out the exclusive premiere of 'Quarry Hymns' after the jump.
