The Daily Star reports that M.I.A - real name Mathangi Arulpragasam - could miss out on her cheque because Big Chill organisers can legally refuse to pay, due to a breach of contract.
A source quoted by the paper said, "By inviting the audience on stage M.I.A. was in breach of her contract."
They added, "The organisers don't have to pay her anything if they feel she endangered people, it's all there in black and white."
Last Saturday, Aug. 7, M.I.A encouraged fans to join her on stage as she performed her song 'Paper Planes'. Over 200 fans then jumped over security barriers to join the singer, forcing the gig to be cut short as well as injuring security personnel.
A statement was later issued by the festival saying, "A spokesperson for M.I.A. thanked the wonderful audience at the Big Chill for the fantastic reception received and apologized for having to cut the set short due to overwhelming demand for fans to come on stage when only a few were expected."

So the festival says they appreciate "the fantastic reception received" but the "Daily Star" says they scrounging on some "endangering lives" thing.
