"As soon as we finish our first round of touring, we'll be right back in the studio," he tells Spinner. "It's really critical for the health and evolution of the band that we not repeat a long interim again."
For 'Transit Transit,' Edwards describes some of the material as gateways to their past work in 'Future Perfect.' For example, the melodic 'Census' is more conventionally Autolux, but there are hints on what the next batch of material could end up sounding like. "Songs like 'Transit Transit,' 'Highchair' and 'Bouncing Wall,' I feel like those are the ones that stick out in my head that are a bridge to what we're do next," he says. "It'll be a quick turnaround or we'll shoot ourselves."
Autolux are currently on a five-week tour, which kicked off Aug. 11 at San Francisco's Great American Music Hall. From there, they'll trek to the east coast and back, treating fans to some blistering live sets, a temperament that fits the band's mix of electronics and fuzzed out guitars. Sometimes, it's hard to believe it's just a trio getting this much sound on record and in concert.
"Whatever we'll lack in terms of overdubs, live you can make up for it in impact and volume," Edwards says. "To make a record have an impact at a lower volume, you have to do more."
'Transit Transit' is out now on TBD Records.
