And rumours on the Internet suggest that the act could well be Madonna -- who had also been rumoured to play at the festival in 2009 -- with eFestivals placing the singer as a possible Pyramid Stage performer.
In an interview with Heart Radio, Eavis confirmed that the Sunday headliner was American. He said, "We've got two out of three headliners already sorted. There's American artists that I've been wanting to have for years and yonks and yonks and yonks - so it's confirmed. I can't tell you who it is. I really cannot tell you who it is!"
He added, "It's so good though, I'm so thrilled about it. Sunday night headliner for next year. No, don't start guessing."
As previously reported by Spinner, Eavis had recently confirmed two out of the three headliners had already been booked for the festival, although he admitted his preferred choice for the Friday night slot would be U2, who had to pull out of this year's festival due to Bono suffering a back injury.
