The accident, which took place on July 4 after he allegedly attended a Gay Pride parade, left a dent in the wall of the storefront. The damaged wall has not yet been repaired, but the dent is reportedly now decorated by graffiti that reads, simply, "Wham!" Of course, Michael is no stranger to legal troubles, drug charges, car crashes or other blunders that, by nature of his fame, have played out in the public eye.
Michael first achieved stardom with the band Wham! in the 1980s and was then propelled to superstar status with his mega-successful solo debut, 'Faith,' in 1987. His first real stumble occurred on April 7, 1998 when he was arrested by an undercover cop in Beverly Hills for engaging in a lewd act in a public bathroom. The arrest was part of a sting operation but Michael plead "no contest" to the charge and, later, humorously -- perhaps even courageously -- made light of it in the song "Outside."
In the 2000s, Michael had several incidents involving automobiles and cannabis use. He was banned from driving for two years after a 2007 arrest in which he was found passed out, in his car, in the middle of an intersection. He's admitted his stoner habits on a number of occasions and, in a 2007 television interview, partially blamed some of his more serious drug abuse on grief associated with his mother's death, ten years earlier.
The Associated Press reports that, for his latest mishap, tests have indicated that Michael was under the influence of several drugs -- including gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), commonly nicknamed "the date-rape drug" because it leaves users virtually powerless and, well... unfit to drive.
