It is believed that he feared he may have crippled a girl for life after he took a stage dive. According to a report on Australian website News.com.au, eye-witness Jens Borm said that the stage-dive was totally unexpected. He said, "As people were completely surprised by this, they jumped away instead of catching him. Apparently one girl couldn't get away and was severely injured in the back."
The fan suffered injuries to one leg and four vertebrae and was taken to hospital where she is expected to make a full recovery.
The incident is said to have sparked a near-riot while the Sun newspaper reports that Haddon was subsequently engaged in a heated row with his bandmates after the incident.
He is then said to have climbed 60ft (18 metres) up a mast and dived into the festival's car park.
A statement on Ou Est Le Swimming Pool's MySpace reads, "We are all so deeply saddened to confirm that our friend Charlie Haddon passed away yesterday, Friday 20 August. The singer had just performed with his band, Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, at the Pukkelpop festival in Belgium. He was 22 years old.
"Charles Alexander Haddon R.I.P Thanks for all your messages of support. x."
Ou Est Le Swimming Pool formed in 2009 and have released three singles including their popular debut, 'Dance the Way I Feel.'
