For the group's first stage performance since they split in 2004, Carl Barat, Pete Doherty, John Hassall and Gary Powell have been practicing at the venue for a few days in preparation for tonight's warm-up gig ahead of their appearances this weekend at the Reading and Leeds Festivals.
Even though the Kentish Town Forum had been furnished with seats, the 300-strong audience charged to the front of the venue to greet the returning band, NME.com reported. The Libertines opened with 'Horrorshow' then played a set that covered both their albums, including the numbers 'Vertigo' and 'Up the Bracket,' with 'What a Waster' and 'I Get Along' as an encore.
Keeping chat to a minimum, the band performed a 22-song set, dropping in several obscurities such as unreleased demo track 'Lust of the Libertine.' They ended the show by bowing in a line at the front of the stage, when a shirtless Powell threw his drum sticks into the crowd.
Tickets for the gig were only available via an online lottery, as previously reported in Spinner.
