Taking the stage and launching into the apt 'Feel Good Hit of the Summer,' frontman Josh Homme had put his side-project Them Crooked Vultures on hold for his second-to-last slot on the Main Stage -- warming up for Axl Rose's ill-fated appearance.
The five-piece drew one of the biggest crowds on the first day of the 80,000 capacity event, which also saw the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Phoenix and Biffy Clyro play.
After 'Feelgood...' QOTSA showed that they were there to party, by following it with 'The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret' and had the crowd rapt from the outset.
Hailing the audience as "beautiful," Homme appeared to be in a boisterous and jovial mood.
He told the audience, "It's so beautiful tonight. Look around you ... I love this festival so goddamn much. You all look beautiful and I'm not just saying that because I'm high and drunk as f---."
During their hour-long set, Queens also managed to play fan favourites 'Sick Sick Sick,' 'Little Sister,' 'Go With the Flow' and 'No One Knows,' before closing with 'A Song for the Deaf.'
