The band were midway through 'Time for Heroes' when the plug was pulled and they were ushered off-stage by crew.
Video screens either side of the main stage showed fans struggling for space as hundreds surged forward from behind them.
The band returned following a couple of minutes after security guards had managed to calm the crowd down and resumed where they'd left off with 'Time for Heroes.'
Having come on the mainstage to Vera Lynn's 'We'll Meet Again,' Carl Barat and Pete Doherty said little to the audience.
However, they put on an overwhelming show of affection, hugging, kissing and sharing a microphone throughout the show, with Barat so reluctant to let Doherty go at one point that he ripped his top down the front.
Looking healthy and happy, Doherty appeared to be sober and didn't miss a note in an incredibly tight set which saw them close with 'What a Waster' and the finale 'I Get Along.'
The Libs were on just before headliners Arcade Fire, who closed the night with a sublime and impassioned set drawing on all three of their albums.
