Road Report: Dead Confederate Head West With Futurebirds
- Posted on Sep 8th 2010 4:09PM by Dead Confederate

Dead Confederate have just released their new album, 'Sugar,' and are currently finishing up their run with Futurebirds before heading back out on a co-headlining tour with Alberta Cross. The band will be checking in along the way, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at life on the road, complete with personal photos and commentary.
In their second entry, frontman Hardy Morris chronicles the five-piece's travels toward the West Coast, but while the Georgia natives had a great time hanging out with other notable musicians along the way, Futurebirds encountered a little snafu on the journey. But don't worry -- everything soon returned to normal, and the bands were back to rocking on the road in no time. Read more about Dead Confederate's adventures after the jump.
*STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO
So we played the Old Town Pub in Steamboat Springs tonight. It was also our first show with Houses from Denver, Colo. Futurebirds played first and sounded awesome as always. Houses were great too. I had really liked what I'd heard of them, but it was nice to see them live... We are playing a few more shows with them later on this tour. This was yet another venue that treated all the bands awesome and its a beautiful town to say the least.
*ASPEN, CO
Another show with Houses and Futurebirds in another beautiful town. The sound at the venue was great so both bands sounded perfect. I hopped up and played 'Paradise' by John Prine with Futurebirds. I'm sure it sounded terrible, but it was fun! Little did we know a dark cloud was slowly forming over the heads of our dear Birds of the Future...(!)
**SALT LAKE CITY, UT
So the Futurebirds transmission fell out of their car this morning!!!!!!!!!! Not good, obviously. They were unable to make it to the show in Salt Lake. Luckily there was a great local band playing with us to take up the slack...The Trappers. They were a cool band and cool guys. The show was at Urban Lounge, which is a stellar venue, by the way. We played there last year on the Meat Puppets tour, and this time, we saw Kris Kirkwood's spirit in the ceiling fan back stage. It was going crazy!
**BOISE, ID
Another awesome venue, the Neurolux in Boise. You drive and drive through hours and hours of mountains and plains and arrive at a venue and record store that you'd expect to find in a major city. We've played Neurolux before and it was great...this show was no exception. Great crowd and vibe the whole night. I wish the Futurebirds could've made it, but cars don't go very fast without a transmission, so...yea.
SEATTLE, WA (Night Off)
The Birds are back in action! We had the night off in Seattle (one of our fav towns to play...always awesome). We put the Futurebirds in touch with our friend Nate who lives in "The Green House" in Seattle. He has been having house parties and hosting bands for about four years and is moving soon so we had to get back there quick. Our friends Feral Children and Futurebirds both played the Green House. We had a second attempt at 'Paradise.' I think it was even worse, but it was fun!
*SEATTLE, WA
We played the Bumbershoot after party. It was us, Futurebirds and Surfer Blood on the bill. Each band had a rooftop cabana set-up overlooking downtown Seattle, which was very cool. All the bands played awesome and we had quite a time. Our friends in The Whigs came to the show creating an impressive showing of Athenians to be so far from home. Seattle is always great...sad to leave so soon.
PORTLAND, OR
The Doug Fir!! Awesome venue in Portland! I'm in the restaurant of the Doug Fir typing this now. We played an in-store set at Music Millennium, which is a great record store here in town. I've been to several record stores in Portland over the years and they are all awesome. This city has it figured out: great venues, stores, transportation, etc. There is just always a good vibe around here. I don't really know what it is, but I like it.
Last night was our first show with Alberta Cross. They are joining the tour and Futurebirds are going to do some shows of their own for a while It was good to have both bands last night though -- kind of a welcome and farewell party all in one. We start our drive towards San Fran today...Redwoods on the way...nice!
*indicates shows where Carter (from Futurebirds) Dad and brother (T.K. and Brooks) were in attendance raising hell with everyone in sight.
**indicates shows that the Futurebirds missed, but T.K. And Brooks were still in attendance raising hell with everyone in sight.
