Weezer Unveil Hurley Clothing Line

Weezer are veterans that understand how to rock some corporate synergy. Their new album, 'Hurley,' is on sale Tuesday Sept. 14 and they are celebrating by releasing an exclusive clothing line through the Hurley brand, as Stereogum reports. On sale this Friday at Hurley-owned PacSun stores in malls across the nation, the band is using their namesake for a '90s-inspired collection that includes a puffy vest, flannel shirt, windbreaker, thrifty band t-shirt and a beanie.

In addition, PacSun will get the first retail release of 'Hurley' when the clothing line debuts. Other than the band shirt, the rest of the clothes eschew fan souvenirs and are more about Weezer's look -- a combination of nerd, prep and vintage fashion that seems based in decade-old alternative culture rather than Hurley's usual surf-influenced items.

Of course, there is another "Hurley" involved here, which may have some fans scratching their heads. The album's gonzo cover art features a stand alone image of actor Jorge Garcia -- Hurley from 'Lost.' The internet was abuzz earlier in August when Weezer revealed the artwork to Spinner, calling on fans to submit their own versions of the photo.

At this point, you may be wondering: "Why so many Hurleys?" The band's guitarist Brian Bell recently explained the partnership with Hurley, claiming that the company also provided financial support for Weezer's new record before recanting the quote due to confusion. Maybe he was even more confused than he thought, because, while Hurley didn't fund the record, Weezer is most definitely in business with the clothing company.

"We actually did some sort of advertisement -- I don't even know how they're tied in so much, although -- we got some clothes and we did a photo shoot where we're wearing these clothes, and I think we're selling these clothes in malls," he said.
