In an uncharacteristically furious outburst, Mani has accused Hook of "living off [Joy Division singer] Ian Curtis' blood money." As previously reported on Spinner, Hook has been performing Joy Division's 1979 debut album with his band the Light to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Ian Curtis' suicide.
According to NME.com, Mani fumed on his Twitter accunt, "Three things visible from space, Great Wall Of China, Peter Hook's wallet stuffed with Ian Curtis' blood money, Man City's empty trophy cabinet! I've actually got an ongoing career, so I don't feel the need to exploit my past glories. I exist in the here and the now."
Mani then turned his attentions to the Freebass album which he lambasted in no less angry terms. "It's where it belongs mate ... in the f------ bargain bin before it's even released."
The usually genial bassist confirmed that he was to start working with Primal Scream again before sticking the boot into Hook once more for good measure: "I'm getting back with the 'real' players tomorrow, thank f---. Can't be doing with talentless nostalgia f---wit whores."
