Gang of Four Releasing First New Album in 16 Years

Influential post-punk outfit Gang of Four have announced plans to release their first album of new material in 16 years. The Leeds-bred band, helmed by founding members Jon King and Andy Gill, will release 'Content' on Jan. 25.

"What we're trying to do is keep it totally stripped down, where everyone in the band makes an equally intense contribution," King said in an announcement. 'Content' was written by King and Gill, with the latter also tackling production duties.

Venerable acts like R.E.M., Sonic Youth and Bloc Party have cited Gang of Four as influences. Speaking of the group's lasting power, King also added, "What I've been thrilled by over the years is that our music still seems to make sense to our audiences, however old they are, and these days they're mostly under 30. They tell us that our music means something, that it makes them want to go start a band. That amazes me. I would never have imagined when we started off that we would have this impact after such a long time."
