Sir Elton kicks off the urban festival at London's legendary Roundhouse venue on Oct. 28 when the multi-Grammy winning artist teams up with mentor and highly regarded session musician Leon Russell. Joining the pair are Plan B and Rumer.
Speaking to the BBC, Sir Elton said, "I'm delighted to be kicking off this year's Radio 2 Electric Proms, particularly as I'll be joined on stage by Leon who is one of my musical heroes. The performance will feature some very special guests and memorable moments."
Robert Plant will appear the following night with his Band of Joy and will be joined by the London Oriana Choir -- one of the UK's leading choral groups. Plant is expected to play a set reinterpreting elements of his famed back catalogue as well as his current explorations in Americana.
Now in their fifth year, the Electric Proms are characterised by legendary artists presenting one-off collaborations and performances. Previous highlights have included Paul Weller duetting with Amy Winehouse, Dame Shirley Bassey singing with Manic Street Preachers' James Dean Bradfield and Oasis working with the Crouch End Festival Chorus. More acts will be announced shortly.
