Beach Boys-Themed Musical Movie in Development

With their 50th anniversary coming up in 2011, Beach Boys fans have been waiting to hear what's next for the legends. Although there has yet to be any confirmation about the rumored reunion tour, devotees will be happy to hear that the band's music will be used as the soundtrack for an upcoming movie, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Much like the ABBA-themed 'Mamma Mia,' the rumored Barry Manilow movie and countless Broadway musicals, the Beach Boys' catalog will be used as the basis for a fictional story. The plot of the movie has yet to be revealed, but we're guessing it'll have more to do with fun in the sand than any of Brian Wilson's experiments with LSD or Dennis Wilson's death.

The rights to the movie were picked up by Fox 2000 and John Stamos, who has performed with the Beach Boys and recently guest-starred on 'Glee.' Stamos will produce alongside Craig Zadan and Neil Meron ('Hairspray,' the upcoming 'Footloose' remake).
