Such was the case when his wife, who is expecting their second child, heard Stewart's lovely rendition of the Henry Mancini classic 'Moon River.' The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer recorded the song for 'Fly Me to the Moon ... The Great American Songbook, Volume V.' The set, his fifth collection of standards, comes out Oct. 19 and also includes 'I've Got You Under My Skin,' 'Beyond the Sea,' 'That Old Black Magic' and many more.
"My wife, when she first heard [it], she burst into tears," Stewart tells Spinner. "She loves it so much. It's her favorite track."
The problem, Stewart says, is it wasn't a favorite of his record label, J Records. "They seemed to have this aversion to it. I don't know why," he says. Finally, he told label executives, "'If you want to take up the fight with a 14-week pregnant woman, be my guest,'" he says, laughing. "They said, 'Oh, we'll back off now.'"
To celebrate the release of 'Fly Me to the Moon,' Stewart will kick off an eight-show stand at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on Nov. 6.
