Rolling Stone is publishing excerpts from the memoir, 'Life,' seen by the Daily Mail, where Richards complains his long-term musical partner "makes it very difficult to be his friend."
He remembers that Jagger was awkward as far back as their school days. "I've no doubt in retrospect that Mick was very jealous of me having other male friends," the guitar hero says. "Maybe his exclusivity is bound up with his own siege mentality. Or maybe he thinks he is trying to protect me: 'What does that a--hole want from Keith?'"
Richards acknowledges Sir Mick has read the work and "was a bit peeved about this and that," but maintains they have not fallen out and are discussing working together next year. The Daily Express, meanwhile, picks up on a passage where the suddenly garrulous author muses on why he survived drug use while many peers passed away.
Richards has already talked about carrying guns to score in New York, as reported in Spinner. Now he reveals he was careful about how much he ingested. "It's not only the high quality of drugs I had that I attribute my survival to," one-half of the Glimmer Twin explains. "I was very meticulous about how much I took. I'd never put more in to get a little higher."
