While Michaelson is still touring behind her 2009 album, 'Everybody,' her mind is already on album number three. Still, she warns fans not to expect any new release until fall 2011.
"I have a lot of songs that are almost finished. I'm still trying to formulate who will produce it," she says. "First, I am figuring out how I want it to sound and then I'll match that with the right producer. I'll figure that all out before the New Year. It's not going to be like 'Parachute' or the record before that. What's the point of putting out records that go with the same style?"
Fans needn't worry that she's ditching her old songs, though. "I'm not one of those musicians who says, 'I'm sick of that song, I'm never playing it again.' I don't believe in that," she says. "I'm not up there for me, I'm up there for everybody. I'm just gearing myself up and writing more energetic songs -- a little edgier, a little more rock."
As far as inspiration, Michaelson is looking to iconoclasts such as Imogen Heap and St. Vincent. "They fuse pop with singer-songwriting, something that's got meat on its bones," she says. "Not to dis my previous work, I love what I've done; I'm just itching to do something out of my comfort zone. If people don't like it and it's a big failure, well, then I failed and I'll try something else."
