Fujiya and Miyagi Unveil 'Ventriloquizzing' Cover Art, Tracklist

Fujiya and Miyagi's fourth full-length, 'Ventriloquizzing,' due out Jan. 25 on Yep Roc, is darker, more aggressive and, in some ways, more confrontational than most of their previously detached, electronic Euro-funk cuts. While the evolution is welcomed, if only because it saves them from the temptations and dangers of redundancy, the guys in the band can't really take all the credit -- they had help from four dummies. Hey, we're not judging anyone here: we're talking about puppets. Literally.

"'Ventriloquizzing' comes from the idea of people speaking for you, like adults do with babies," singer-guitarist David Best said in a release. "Dummies are thought of as creepy; they can reflect a split personality. And that relates to the idea of being in a group, where you are presented as one entity, even though everyone comes from different angles and thinks about one thing very differently from the others."

To demonstrate their point, the band had four such doppelgangers created, with the intention of sending them as fill-ins for photo shoots and even videos. As for the album itself, the quartet brought a new producer on board who, safe to say, is certainly no dummy: Thom Monahan (Vetiver, Devendra Banhart, Au Revoir Simone).
