Phish's Mike Gordon Thinks Halloween Show Will Be 'Best One Yet'

It's the last week of October which means, naturally, that Phish fans everywhere are hotly debating -- and anticipating -- which album Phish will cover for Halloween. After reuniting and making a blockbuster comeback last year, Phish spent this fall digging through their repertoire in smaller arenas while they got their improvisational mojo back. The band will wrap up their tour this weekend with a three-night stand in Atlantic City, climaxing with a three-set affair on Oct. 31 -- Halloween. To celebrate the holiday, Phish will carry on their tradition of donning a "musical costume" by covering another band's album in its entirety. Past "costumes" have included classic albums by the Rolling Stones, Velvet Underground, Talking Heads, the Who and the Beatles.

The characteristically tight-lipped band is keeping mum about their final selection for this year's big event, but bassist Mike Gordon (pictured) does have some words to say about it. "This has the potential to be the best one yet," Gordon tells Spinner. "I'm really excited about it, to the point where I'm calling some of my friends and I'm saying, 'Well, I don't even have any more room on my guest list, but you've got to come somehow, because this is going to be the one.' It just really feels right to me."

Gordon, who is currently promoting his new solo album, 'Moss' -- which he will tour behind in November -- would not say if the band has ever actually considered albums by David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan or Radiohead, as fans have often speculated. More recent rumors on fan websites have favored selections by Led Zeppelin, Queen, King Crimson or Genesis. Whatever album Phish end up going with, expect it to be more of a treat than a trick, per-se.
