Beck Asks Fans to Pick 'Record Club' Album Tracks

Picking tracks for an album is rarely an easy task for a musician, but Beck has come up with an easy solution -- go the crowdsourcing route and let someone else do it. Everybody's favorite musical chameleon wants fans to help him pick existing songs from his ongoing Record Club project for a forthcoming compilation album.

Loyalists are encouraged to cast ballots at his just-announced Beckvoting site. Beck's Record Club has, of course, seen prominent friends like Wilco, MGMT, Liars, Feist and Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore help reinterpret famous albums.

Record Club renditions of songs from classic discs by the Velvet Underground, INXS, Yanni, Skip Spence and Leonard Cohen leave Beck's core audience with literally dozens of tunes to choose from. If the Feist-led take on Spence's 'Weighted Down' and the MGMT and Devendra Banhart-assisted reworking of Cohen's 'Master Song' seem like obvious choices, Yanni's 'Keys to Imagination' with Moore and Chicago experimentalists Tortoise are tough to beat.
