According to Swedish publication Aftonbladets, Richards reportedly got into an argument with the tabloid's music reviewer Markus Larsson during a promotional stop at Paris' Le Meurice Hotel for his new autobiography 'Life.' In August 2007, Larsson gave the Stones a 2 out of 5 rating for a concert in Gothenburg, Sweden and described them as "amateurs." Richards didn't forget the slight. In fact, he demanded a public apology.
"The meeting ended with the rock star threatening Markus Larsson and hitting him in the head," the article said, with Larsson adding that Richards hissed, "You're lucky to get out of here alive" prior to leaving.
The incident took place 10 minutes into the scheduled 30-minute interview before Richards realized who he was speaking to and "the mood of the rock star quickly changed."
"His eyes got black and he was absolutely furious," Larsson said. "He stood up and asked if we would put out the lights and settle the disagreement straight away. At first I was just surprised, I thought he was pulling my leg, but then I realized he was serious and then I felt uncomfortable and I just wanted to get out of there pretty fast."
Richards released 'Life' late last month but also hinted that the Stones will mount a tour in 2011. The group last toured in 2007 behind their studio album 'A Bigger Bang.'

I really don't want Richards to hit anybody. What is he now? About 85? His bones will crumble.

2. As for being the 'Greatest Rock & Roll band in the World': That title will likely stick over time regardless of the bands technical musical expertise. Titles like that are as much a matter of personal taste, and anyway that argument is beside the point.
3. I saw the Stones twice: Once at Olympia Stadium in Detroit in the late sixties and they were entirely on the ball; great concert. Then I saw them again in a theater (the Fox?) in Detroit years later and I was very disappointed. At one point half the band started playing one song and the other half different song. And it looked to me like Keith was extremely drunk. They were altogether sloppy and I felt 'disrespected' by what I felt was an attitude of contempt for their audience. So they Can give a less than stellar performance.
4. So if this was the case in Gothenburg, then the reviewer might better have said that they 'played' like amateurs, than to have said that they 'were' amateurs. Because:
5 To call the Stones 'amateurs' is truly inaccurate. They are one Professional outfit of entertainers, first and foremost. And whether or not they are virtuosos with their instruments, seems to me that they are undeniably virtuosos in the Art of Rock & Roll.
Shame on the comment that the Stones sounded rough at the Toronto SARS unsheduled free benefit concert they put on while other rockers were bailing out. Wimps. Good music was NOT the point. The Stones came to the unprompted and unpaid defence of their adopted North American home to calm world wide fears that Toronto was a festering plague reavaged deathtrap -- THAT was their message: That 50 thousand or more Torontonians could gather in one spot and not set off a raging epidemic -- or even a single reported case of SARS contracted at the Stones benefit. EVERY act at the SARS benefit sounded crappy acoustically speaking right up to the second headliners, AC/DC. THAT was purpose of the show which of course had terrible acoustics playing as they were at an old airport and using a hangar as their practice spot (as the Stones always do in Toronto before every North American tour).I saw them from 3 feet away in the front row of a surprise gig at at snall Toronto club and I can tell you if anybody was born to rock it is Richards. The Stones stepped up to lift morale in a SARS-weary Toronto after dozens of so-called "hard rockers" half their age cancelled THEIR gigs for fear that they might catch something. I am an author and journalist myself but that only lends MORE credibility to this statement re: Richards kicking a media darling's ass: "Good on yer, Keef! Box 'is ears for ME too, mate." -- William Burrill, Toronto

Richards knows 3 cords at best, and can only repeat 1 and a half 50-100 times a song at best.If they had a bad show and can not take the review, take a look at the video, see if you can improve, not likely.
Give it up,who wants to listen to a so called supper band who MILKED MILLIONS with nothing but substandard learics and throw up rhyrhims.
Was once offered tickets to a show in New York, WITH BACK STAGE ACCESS and had to gently explain to my friend I would not WALK across the street to see them, EVEN IF IT WAS FOR FREE.
Sorry world, most OVERRATED Band of ALL TIME!!!!
just wonderin', who would you walk across the street to see?

There is something ignoble of running away from a fight with a five-thousand year old mummy whose body contains more cocaine molecules than hair follicles. In fact, that Larsson guy missed a great opportunity to get high for free by not biting off Richards's ear, or at least part of it. If push comes to shove, and there will be a twelve-round bout between the two in Nigeria or in Nanaimo Bay (for tax haven reasons), my money is on Larsson.

Can't say Larsson was to far off the mark. The Stones were God Awful at the Toronto SARS fundraiser a few years back. Sound was terrible, singing was off key, and Richards' guitar playing clearly revealed that his arthritic hands just can't play anymore. They WERE truly great, but no longer. Keith should get over it. Have a swig of Jack and relax, man.

November 11 2010 at 2:56 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI think the media can manipulate the facts to much and a lot of the Journalist are on a power trip specially when they get popular. I personally observed Mr.Richards at a resort near my home on the islands . He was just like any other guy. I didn,t rely know whom he was tell much later so my observation was unbiased He is the kind of guy you would like to get to know. Think he would be a friend your able to say hi to if youâre lucky once in your life time Ha! ;)

Some, however, do graduate to music which can last longer than half a lifetime.
